Vygotsky’s Principle of Social Constructivism

1.Learning and development is a social, collaborative activity.

An effective learning can be attained through the participation in social activities. The people around especially the parents an the teachers are the contributors of this process.  They will explain, model, assist and give feedback to the learner.  On the other hand, peers cooperate, collaborate and enrich the learning experience. Thus, learning and development of a learner is accomplished when the people that surrounds cooperate reasonably.  As what the cliche stresses out, "Two heads are better than one."

2. The Zone of Proximal Development can serve as a guide for curricular and lesson planning.

When planning a lesson or curriculum, the teacher must be knowledgeable enough about the capacity and ability of the students.  He/She must not create or have a lesson that goes beyond the capabilities of  a learner to think or understand.  He/She must be aware of what type and what level of thinking does his/her students do have. Thus, the plan must be SMART ( Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-bounded ), in order to have a great teaching-learning process.
